# Insurance — life, savings, health, property

## The aim of the lesson

> **Insure what you cannot bear; bear yourself what you can. And never buy an investment dressed up as insurance without seeing the fees.**

- 👧 Child: we insure the big disasters, not the pencils.
- 🧑 Teenager: motor liability insurance protects others; check what protects you.
- 🧔 Adult:
- does someone depend on your income — then term insurance;
- a reserve for the small things;
- KID and IPID before you sign.

**Your step in Pecuvo:** a "Security" basket (insurance) with the yearly total. Set goals with renewal dates. Next to each policy, write down: what it covers, the excess, when it expires.

## The topic (chapters of the module)

1. Chapter 1 · How insurance works
2. Chapter 2 · What is worth insuring
3. Chapter 3 · Compulsory insurance
4. Chapter 4 · Life: protection and savings insurance
5. Chapter 5 · Unit-linked insurance: an investment dressed up as insurance
6. Chapter 6 · Health and accidents
7. Chapter 7 · Property
8. Chapter 8 · How to read the contract

## For the youngest · ages 6–7

🐣 **The youngest:** Imagine everyone in the class puts one coin into a shared box. When someone needs help, the box helps. For example, a new tyre for a bike. Everyone gives a little, and so no one is alone. This is caring for each other.

**Play together (5 minutes):** Make a family box for mending toys. Every evening, everyone drops in one button. When a toy needs glue or a patch, decide together that the box will help.

**A question for the evening:** "How can we help each other when someone needs help?"

**A game from the catalogue:** RS-01 "The rainy-day fund" — [https://pecuvo.eu/igri/katalog/#rs-01](https://pecuvo.eu/igri/katalog/#rs-01) (in Bulgarian)

## Questions for the class — 3 per level

- 👧 1. How does the shared box of the 100 children work? 2. What do we insure — the pencil or the house? 3. Why do we read something with an adult before signing?
- 🧑 1. What is an excess? 2. Whom does motor liability insurance protect? 3. What is the difference between term and savings life insurance?
- 🧔 1. Why do insured people, on average, pay more than they get back — and why is it still worth it? 2. What does EIOPA warn about unit-linked insurance? 3. Which eight things do you check in the contract?

## A 45-minute plan

- **5 min:** The question for the evening or one from “Check yourself” — what do the pupils think? No right or wrong answers.
- **15 min:** One or two chapters of the module at the level of the class (the “child · teenager · adult” buttons on the page).
- **10 min:** The game or the calculator for the topic — in pairs or on the board.
- **10 min:** The questions for the class. If you like, the open test — everyone writes down only their code.
- **5 min:** The iron principle in the pupils' own words and one small step for home.
